Unitree Gears up for IPO; NVIDIA picks the Chinese Humanoid Maker for Research Project

Last month, AI chipmaker NVIDIA tapped Unitree to design an open humanoid robot reference design that leading research institutions can use to advance frontier humanoid robotics research.

Chinese humanoid manufacturer Unitree has received regulatory approval for its RMB 4.2 billion ($619.4 million) initial public offering (IPO), making it one of China’s most-watched robotics technology companies to list for public trading.

Last Thursday, the China Securities Regulatory Commission approved the Hangzhou-based company’s application to list on Shanghai’s STAR Market, the city’s technology board. The approval is valid for 12 months, Reuters said in a report.

According to the draft prospectus filed with the Shanghai Stock Exchange, Unitree—which makes humanoid robots, four-legged quadrupeds, and robot parts—plans to sell at least 40.45 million shares. It is yet to set a share price and the launch date of the IPO.

The company will deploy the funds raised from the IPO for robot artificial intelligence model research, robot body research, new ​robot product development, and a smart robot manufacturing ​base.

About 40% of Unitree’s revenue comes from markets outside of China, the company has disclosed.

Last month, AI chipmaker NVIDIA tapped Unitree to design an open humanoid robot reference design that leading research institutions can use to advance frontier humanoid robotics research.

The setup combines Unitree’s H2 humanoid robot with NVIDIA’s Jetson Thor hardware, which includes an advanced Blackwell GPU for on-device artificial intelligence capabilities.

According to a press release, NVIDIA’s open humanoid-focused AI model, Isaac GR00T, and simulation systems are part of the new robot testing package. Further, the robot uses Singapore-based Sharpa’s Wave robot hands for dexterous, tactile manipulation.

Launched at NVIDIA’s GTC in Taipei, Founder and CEO Jensen Huang said, “Today, we’re announcing the NVIDIA Isaac Root, a reference humanoid robot, all fully integrated, 25 degrees of freedom on each hand made by Sharpa, 31 degrees of freedom on the robot, six feet, 150 pounds, just like me.”

He added, “The NVIDIA Isaac GR00T Reference Humanoid Robot gives researchers a single, open platform to make breakthrough discoveries toward general-purpose physical intelligence.”

Leading research institutions, including Seattle-based Ai2, ETH Zurich in Switzerland, Stanford Robotics Centre, and UC San Diego’s Advanced Robotics and Controls Laboratory, will use the reference design to advance frontier humanoid robotics research, NVIDIA said.

“Advancing robotics research for real-world problems requires humanoids that can move, interact and manipulate with precision in dynamic environments,” said Michael Yip, Professor at UC San Diego and Director of the Advanced Robotics and Controls Laboratory.

“An integrated platform that connects robot hardware, data capture, policy learning and physical evaluation can help researchers accelerate loco-manipulation research and develop more useful real-world systems,” he added.

The company said that the NVIDIA Issac GR00T Reference Humanoid Robot will be available from Unitree in late 2026.
