An Emotional Test: UBTech’s UWorld U1 Moves Humanoid Robots into Households

It introduced the world’s first full-size ultra-bionic humanoid robot, UWorld U1 Series, last week, which has already surpassed 13,000 units in cumulative orders, showcasing a structural shift of humanoid robots moving into homes from factory floors.
According to James Zhou, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of UBTech, the company aims to achieve a “symbiosis” between humans and humanoids in three stages: first, replacing repetitive labour, second, entering everyday life scenarios, and third, providing companionship services.
Humanoid companionship requires more than the machine looking like humans; it should also understand and interpret them. The UWorld U1—built as the world’s first emotion-aware large language model—can recognise more than 20 fine-grained emotional states with over 90% accuracy, the Shenzhen, China-based manufacturer claimed.
Drawing on cognitive neuroscience, UWorld U1 showcases a fast-and-slow cognitive architecture. While faster real-time reactions are within 500 milliseconds, slower responses are equipped with deep reasoning powered by large-scale AI models—designed to maintain long, real companionship that takes into account a user’s emotions.
It also showcases a life-like expression system with ultra-low-latency lip-sync (as fast as 20 milliseconds), enabling seamless emotional communication.
UWorld U1’s cross-temporal memory system, Agent Memory OS, is designed to build a “digital life” system, allowing the robot to continuously record, understand, and respond to changes in the user’s condition throughout the product lifecycle.
As far as hardware goes, the model is equipped with 88 bionic joints, enabling highly natural human-like motion and expression.
The life-like humanoid is built on UBTech’s own dual-pivot biomimetic cervical spine that can replicate 90% of everyday human body movements, including more than 300 composite micro-expressions across four major categories, human-like neck mobility, and posture retention.
According to the company, the humanoid’s full-time self-locking technology can maintain head posture even when the robot is powered off—reducing the rigid feel often associated with mechanical movement.
UBTech highlighted that the built-in multidimensional flexible electronic skin allows the robot to sense the force and location of touch, enabling it to respond physically to hugs and leaning gestures.
In terms of data security, UBTech said the UWorld U1 series prioritises local processing of user data and avoids cloud uploads unless necessary. Further, users can view, export, and delete their data at any time.
During the launch, the company said it plans to donate customised bionic robots each year to groups, including empty-nest seniors, families that have lost their only child, and families of people officially recognised as martyrs. It plans to donate 100 units in 2026.
According to a research report by Guotai Junan Securities, the potential demand for companion robots among China’s elderly population stands at about RMB 420 billion ($61.7 billion), while demand among younger consumers is around RMB 500 billion ($73.5 billion), putting the combined potential market at close to RMB 1 trillion ($147 billion).
Given that, UWorld U1 would use 3D facial reconstruction and voiceprint-based identity replication technology to recreate “a designated likeness, combining an emotion-interaction large model with dedicated long-term memory to provide psychological companionship.”
UBTech’s lineup includes three models: the U1 Lite semi-torso edition, the high-performance full-body U1 Pro, and the high-dynamic full-body U1 Ultra. According to media reports, prices for these models range between approximately $17,000 and $145,000.
