What if you only had to think about a task, and a robot completed it? That idea may sound super sci-fi, right? But it is actually becoming real. A Chinese company has just unveiled a new brain-to-robot AI platform. This lets people control machines using only their thoughts. Yes, that’s all it takes to control a robot. You don’t need to press buttons or give voice commands anymore. All you have to do is simply wear a headset, and the robot will respond to your brain signals.

China-based brain-computer interface (BCI) company BrainCo has introduced what it calls the world’s first integrated brain-to-robot AI platform. With the help of this new technology, humans can control robots by simply using their thoughts. The company presented this technology on July 17 at the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai. During the demo, a robotic arm picked up a cup and an apple just by using the user’s brain signals.

This new platform is designed in order to make the interaction between humans and robots way more natural. Not only this, but it also helps solve one of the biggest challenges in robotics: collecting high-quality training data for embodied AI systems.

Turning Brain Signals into Robot Actions

The platform uses a non-invasive brain-computer interface based on electroencephalography (EEG). All the user does is wear an EEG headset. This headset detects the brain’s electrical activity through sensors placed on the scalp. After that, AI algorithms analyze these signals and try to understand the user’s intended action. Then the system converts these intentions into commands that a connected robot can perform.

Unlike implant-based brain-computer interfaces such as Neuralink, which require surgical procedures, BrainCo’s technology relies entirely on wearable EEG devices. The platform currently supports a variety of third-party hardware, including humanoid robots, robotic arms, and robotic dogs.

According to BrainCo, the system has been designed with an integrated architecture that allows even researchers without prior BCI experience to begin operating brain-controlled robots within about 10 minutes.

“The embodied AI industry has made remarkable progress on what robots can do on their own,” said Nyx He, partner and senior vice-president of BrainCo. “We believe the next decisive frontier is about how robots understand the humans they work with.”

Growing Interest in Brain-Computer Interfaces

Founded in 2015, BrainCo has become one of China’s leading brain-computer interface companies. It is known for developing non-invasive EEG headbands and prosthetic systems.

The launch comes as competition in embodied AI continues to intensify. Companies including Tesla and Nvidia are investing heavily in robots capable of understanding their surroundings, reasoning through tasks, and performing physical work autonomously.

Industry analysts, however, note that the shortage of high-quality real-world training data continues to slow the commercialization of humanoid robots. A recent HSBC report said China’s humanoid robot industry still faces significant challenges in developing advanced robotic intelligence and that widespread commercial deployment remains several years away.

It is worth noting that BrainCo hasn’t yet released any sort of detailed performance data. However, as per published research, non-invasive EEG systems can achieve around 80% accuracy in simpler robot control tasks. But if commands become more complex, it leads to a reduction in system performance along with a slight latency of roughly one second.

Despite that, the company believes that brain-computer interfaces can change how humans and intelligent machines interact with each other. Rather than relying on keyboards/controllers or voice commands, robots would be capable of responding just by understanding a person’s intention. And doing so will create a way more natural connection between humans and AI/robotics systems.
