Think of China and the 1st thing that comes to your mind is Artificial Intelligence, isn’t it? Whether it’s the tech sector or humanoid robots, China is definitely one of those countries that keeps surprising everyone with something new. The country has set a benchmark in innovations and new developments. And now China has shared yet another major update.

China expects its humanoid robot production to exceed 100,000 units this year. Now that’s definitely quite a big deal. And this shows the country’s ever-rising investment in artificial intelligence and advanced robotics.

Gan Xiaobin announced the projection at a press conference on July 7 in Shanghai. The event took place ahead of the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC), which will take place from July 17 to July 20. 

Gan, the deputy director of the Department of Science and Technology under China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said that China’s rapidly evolving AI ecosystem and expanding range of AI applications are driving growth in the humanoid robotics sector and supporting the country’s high-quality economic development. He added that artificial intelligence is increasingly being adopted across China’s industrial sector. As per Gan, the AI application penetration rate among industrial enterprises above the designated size now exceeds 30 percent.

The official also highlighted the role of the National AI Industry Investment Fund. He said the fund is bringing more investment into the AI sector and encouraging continued innovation.

Many of the latest developments in artificial intelligence and robotics will be showcased at the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference, scheduled to take place in Shanghai.

Held under the theme “AI Partnership for a Brighter Future,” the conference will feature six major sections covering forums, exhibitions, innovation incubation, application experiences, talent exchange, and competitions.

As per the organizers, more than 1,100 exhibitors have already registered for the conference. Moreover, 3,000-plus exhibits are expected to be displayed. Not only this, but more than 300 products are also set to make their global debut during the conference.

This announcement indeed shows that China is continuously putting in effort to improve its AI & robotics sector even further. And the country’s humanoid robotics sector has become one of the fastest-growing technology sectors in the world.
