Serbia to Open Europe’s first humanoid robot factory with AGIBOT

The Šabac facility, being developed with Chinese companies AGIBOT and Minth, is expected to employ more than 200 people and produce robots for European and global markets.

ŠABAC, Serbia — Serbia’s Ministry of Trade announced that AGIBOT and Minth would open the facility in Šabac at the end of the month. Serbian officials have described it as the first factory of its kind in Europe, placing the country among the emerging locations for humanoid robot manufacturing outside China.

The facility is expected to initially employ more than 200 people, with robots produced at the site intended for European and global markets, according to Mihailo Jovanović, director of Serbia’s Office for IT and eGovernment.

The project builds on Minth’s existing industrial presence in Serbia. The Chinese manufacturer already operates production facilities in Šabac and Loznica. In May, a Serbian government delegation visited Minth and AGIBOT facilities in China, including a robot production line and a robotics training center.

The new facility is expected to produce more than humanoid robots. Serbian officials have also referred to plans for four-legged, or “dog-like,” robots. The initial focus is expected to be hardware production, followed by work on training robots using artificial intelligence.

The project also includes a workforce training component. Serbian officials said 300 young Serbian professionals are already being trained at Minth’s facilities, with plans for around 500 people a year to participate. The training is intended to build local expertise in robotics and artificial intelligence alongside the manufacturing operation.

AGIBOT’s expansion comes as Chinese robotics manufacturers seek to increase production of humanoid robots and establish a presence in overseas markets. The Serbian government has described AGIBOT as one of the world’s largest humanoid robot producers, citing its production and delivery figures.

The company’s presence in Serbia could give AGIBOT and Minth a manufacturing base closer to European customers, while Serbia gains a foothold in an industry that is still moving from prototypes and demonstrations toward larger-scale production.

However, several details about the Šabac facility remain unclear.

The factory is currently scheduled to open at the end of August. Its actual production volumes and the extent of its European operations will become clearer once the facility begins operating.
